Quick Update from RFID Journal Live Kick Off

Wow - what a first day today at the ninth annual RFID Journal Live Trade Show in Orlando. This is clearly the biggest and most interesting of all the shows so far. I was at the first one nine years ago at the McCormick center where a few of us just had tables set up and the talk was all about WalMart among the 150 or so people there. Today there were several thousand and tons of end users.

Today was all about end-users and all the exciting new use cases in RFID. They talks ranged from huge DoD programs spending millions of dollars, to a mom-and-pop ice cream shop using RFID for social media. It is clear RFID has hit the real-world big time.

The booths were really impressive as you walked into the exhibit hall the first three booths that showed really well were Motorola's big booth with lots of partner solutions, Impinj's innovative and very professional booth and the way-cool ODIN baseball diamond in the middle of the floor with lots of big screens and new software demos. Some of the more talked about spots were small vendors like Tageos who have a 5 cent tag that performs really well, and the impressive showing of the French and Korean contingencies.

The most fun thing that happened today was the use of RFID and social media to check in to session, like speakers and booths, and automatically take photos of yourself and post to the RFID Journal Page.
