Medical Devices on the cutting edge of RFID

Pardon my pun in the title but the medical device industry is really on the cutting edge of logistics, but not all of them. It is like many other industries of leaders and losers. Companies like Medtronic have made great strides and show very tangible return on investment. Others are still kicking tires.

This week I'll be leading a breakout session on RFID at the Orthopaedic Manufacturing & Technology Exposition and Conference (OMTEC). It  is a highly focused educational conference committed to the specialty of orthopaedics. My session is at 0900 on Thursday and will give all the insights that medical device manufacturers need to evaluate an RFID solution.

IF there is a medical device manufacturer that is not using RFID the big question I'd ask is "Why the heck not?" In a tough economy with a supply chian know for it's visibility gaps why wouldn't the device manufacturers want to leverage the technology?

What I'll tell the folks at OMTEC is the last 12 months have brought together a perfect storm in the RFID market - decreasing costs, increasing performance and stabilizing global standards. If you're in Chicago stop by our 10x20 booth - we're a Gold Sponsor of the conference in booth 401-402. Here's what the organizers say about the show:

Designed as an educational venue to create access to information requested by OEM Operations and R&D personnel, OMTEC offers 20 lectures and workshops packed with information on sourcing, design, innovation, materials, tactics, technologies and trends. Real, practical, sustainable solutions can be put to immediate use to overcome challenges and optimize performance and profit.
