Self-Inventorying Smart Container featuring patented BlackbirdTM Technology allows users to "see" items inside a container from anywhere with the click of a mouse.
ASHBURN, Va. - April 30, 2009 - ODIN, (http://www.odintechnologies.com/), the leader in accurate RFID solutions for healthcare, government, aerospace and defense, has won the third annual RFID Journal Awards "Best in Show" award, announced today, at RFID Journal LIVE! 2009 in Orlando, Florida. The award is the only global award recognizing excellence in the fast growing industry of RFID.
ODIN won the award for its revolutionary new product, the self-inventorying Smart Container, built on the company's patented BlackbirdTM RFID technology. ODIN's self-inventorying SMART Container delivers the industry's first fully automated, global unit level tracking capability, and is deployable in less than 60 seconds inside any ISO standard shipping container. It reads passive RFID tags inside the container with 99.9% accuracy, a feat unachievable until only recently due to technology and design innovations by ODIN. The self-inventorying Smart Container, a fully enclosed solution about the size of a suitcase, will greatly advance visibility, awareness and tracking for global supply chain and logistics functions, delivering for the first time unit level management control all the way from the factory to the front door. Clients have compared it to having two personnel inside each container who can instantaneously count and monitor the contents, and then report its location anywhere around the world. Previous "smart container" technologies only told where a container was, gave limited environmental input such as temperature, and may have included some sort of security seal. Now, thanks to ODIN's self-inventorying SMART Container, asset managers and logisticians have item-level inventory tracking on demand through a click of a mouse.
The Best in Show award is given each year in recognition of product excellence in the area of radio frequency identification, selected from ten finalists. The finalists were selected from scores of entries worldwide who applied for the honor based on market innovation and the business value their products deliver to end-users. Attendees at the show rated the "Best of Show" products by viewing presentations in the exhibit hall, and the editors of RFID Journal then selected the Best in Show winner based on their opinions, the judges' scores and attendee input. "We are extremely honored by this award," said Patrick J. Sweeney, II, founder of ODIN. "Today marks the tipping point for RFID. By providing a solution that deploys easily and accurately in under a minute and closes the biggest gap in the supply chain, we have fundamentally reinvented RFID. This is one RFID solution that lives up to the promise of this technology. ODIN Labs spent the past four years working on our BlackbirdTM technology and the self-inventorying Smart Container, with the objective to fundamentally reinvent the RFID industry. This solution offers the market a ready to use, simple to deploy solution that delivers unit level visibility anywhere around the world. It is fulfilling to be recognized for our team's efforts and for the value this solution delivers in the market."
ODIN's self-inventorying SMART Container was developed in partnership with MTI labs in San Jose, Calif. MTI's CEO Allen Yen commented, "ODIN's vision and experience in the RFID industry is unsurpassed. We spent the past year working closely with their engineering team and developed a novel reader board solution to help them create a complete solution that has the potential to change the industry. There are promising uses for the defense industry as well as commercial market, particularly for pharmaceutical companies and electronics manufacturers, or shipping companies looking for a new revenue stream by offering a premium service. We see a lot of value in the ODIN self-inventorying SMART Container and have been proud to be a part of this winning solution."
